In Conversation with Textile Artist, Amarjeet Kaur Nandhra

Amarjeet Kaur Nandhra’s work is unique and inspirational.

Her collection of wall hangings, framed pieces and 3D work encapsulates a multitude of origins and techniques. Shakila Taranum Maan talks to Amarjeet about her experiences and her journey as a textile artist.

STM: When did you first become interested in your art form?
AKN: I started with a foundation in Art Graphic’s and I found it very limiting.

I decided to try other things like watercolours, silkscreen, stain glass painting etc. Then a friend of mine gave me a book on embroidery and that did it. I decided to do some research and found a course at Hampton Court that a woman was doing – I loved it!

The tactile quality and textures, it got me very excited and I decided to explore it – it was like going into Aladdin’s cave.

STM: Did it come naturally to you or did you really have to work on it?
AKN: In textiles I
